2025 Year Ahead Tarot Reading and New Workshops ahead!

Hello 2025!

Happy to announce a few changes coming to the event lineup this month. But first, I want to take a minute and ask you a favor. You probably noticed when you signed up for this newsletter that I have a range of interests and offerings. For me, everything centers around spirituality and creativity. And most of what I offer involves tarot cards but not all of it requires tarot cards. So that leaves me curious what YOU signed up for. Did you sign up specifically for tarot content? Did you sign up hoping it won't all be about tarot? If you could send me a quick note just letting me know what type of content YOU would most like to see from this newsletter, it would be SO appreciated. You can contact me at kim@kimberlyessex.com.

Note: You are invited several times below to join us for various events. The link to register for these events can be found at the very end of this newsletter.

Our 2025 Year Ahead Reading:

We performed our 2025 Year Ahead Reading in advance this year! This tarot spread is based on an astrological birth chart. So it is read counterclockwise and begins this month with the Three of Wands. We will be revisiting these cards each month at our Second Thursday Tarot Reading Practice events.

This month's Meditations:

With the last meditation of 2024, we wrapped up our work with the Minor Arcana! Just in time to start 2025 with Major Arcana Meditations. Join us this month for meditations on The Fool, The Magician, The High Priestess, and The Empress. We meet Mondays on Zoom from 8pm to 9pm ET for a guided meditation and discussion.

This month's writing workshop:

Join us on Zoom for Last Sundays from 3pm to 5pm ET to write from the tarot together. Find link to sign up to attend events at the bottom of this email. No experience necessary. You need only a tarot deck and something to write with to participate.

New workshop! Asemic Art with the Tarot

I am really excited to announce this new event! One of my favorite past lives (of this life time) are the years I spent teaching high school art classes in Brooklyn. So I have been pondering for a few years now how I might go about offering something similar to those art classes but for the adults already attending the tarot, writing, and meditation workshops. Concerns I had were that some would arrive with the expectation of illustrating a new tarot deck and others would not join us at all due to a perceived lack of artistic skills. And then it hit me: Asemic Art. This is also often referred to as Asemic Writing. A simple description of Asemic Art/Writing: an art form that appears to be writing but that has no semantic meaning. To see some examples, I recommend checking out the works of Cy Twombly and Renee Gladman. I hope you will decide to join us!

It’s tempting to hold back—especially when being seen has meant being misunderstood. But we aren’t meant to live as spectators. My work exists to invite people back into relationship with life: through meditation, tarot, art, and writing experiences that hold space for connection. Each offering is a small gesture toward re-entry. When we begin to show up, others do too. And that’s how it happens: we co-create something better, together.

Hello February! You will notice our art workshop is no longer listed in the offerings below. This month’s Second Sundays Asemic Art Tarot Workshop has already passed, and for now I’m choosing to pause this series. The last few sessions have been small, and while they were meaningful for me, I don’t currently have the time or energy to keep scheduling them without rethinking the format more carefully. Rather than continuing by default, I want to make space to consider what would make this...

Hello 2026! This month I decided to bring my art and tarot knowledge together to create an exercise you might find useful. I ended up writing quite a bit about my own tarot reading practice, specifically about the difference between projective tarot reading and intuitive tarot reading. You may be surprised at how I use both and why. The full post turned into a writing exercise you can try for yourself with any tarot or oracle card. After the excerpt from this blog post below, you will find my...

Hello December! This month's blog post has been in the works for months. I wanted to create a quick guide to help someone recognize whether a deck of cards is a tarot or not. As a tarot meetup organizer, I could see there was a need for this. Along the way I decided it was necessary to make clear what is not a tarot as well. So, if you already know what a tarot is, the section on non-tarot oracle deck systems may be of interest to you. Or the section on historical decks. I really went on a...
